Trademark and fan-content policy

Version 0.1 · 19 October 2026 · PDF

What you can make with Vatar and Lagos Life material, how you can earn from it, and the few things we ask you not to do.

In short

  • Make fan art, videos, streams, guides, music and cosplay with our material. You don’t need to ask first.
  • You can earn from it through platform ad revenue, tips, memberships and channel sponsors, as long as the work itself stays free to see.
  • Don’t sell products with our logos or characters on them, and don’t make your work look official.
  • Add the fan notice, and take a piece down if we ask.

1. What this covers

“Vatar material” means the names Vatar and Lagos Life and every future world, our logos and the V mark, characters, in-game art, music and sound, written lore, and the screenshots and footage you capture while playing.

2. What you can do

We give you a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence, which we can withdraw, to use Vatar material in fan work that is mainly your own creation:

  • fan art, comics, animation, music and writing;
  • videos, streams, guides, reviews and podcasts;
  • cosplay, props and costumes for yourself;
  • community servers, wikis and events that are free to join.

3. Earning from fan work

  • Allowed: ad revenue on the platform you post to, tips, donations, channel memberships and sponsors of your channel, if you disclose the sponsor and don’t suggest Vatar is involved.
  • Not allowed: putting work that is mostly Vatar material behind a paywall, selling it, crowdfunding a project built on it, or minting it as NFTs or tokens.

4. What you can’t do

  • sell merchandise, prints or digital goods that use our logos, characters or art;
  • use our logos or the V as your own logo, avatar, app icon or watermark;
  • register domains, handles, company names or trademarks that contain “Vatar” or a world name;
  • call your work “official”, or suggest that Vatar made, approved or sponsors it;
  • use our material in ads for other products, or for political campaigns;
  • make hateful, sexual, violent or illegal content, or content that harasses anyone;
  • share other players’ personal information. Everyone in our worlds is a real person;
  • datamine or leak unreleased content, or promote cheats and exploits.

5. Our names and logos

Write our names in plain text: “Vatar” and, on first mention, “Lagos Life, a Vatar world”. Use logos only from the fan kit, unchanged, and never larger than your own name. The “Live on Vatar” badge is for paying partners only.

6. The fan notice

Put this line in the description or credits of your work:

“Made by a fan using Vatar content under Vatar’s Fan Content Policy. Not endorsed by or affiliated with Vatar.”

7. Real places, real brands

Our worlds show real places, and some in-game billboards carry real brands. This policy covers only Vatar’s own material. Brand logos, ads and landmarks belong to their owners.

8. If we ask you to stop

We can withdraw this licence for any piece at any time. If we ask, please take it down within 7 days. We may update this policy and will date every change.

9. Questions

Creator and streamer guidelines

Version 0.1 · 19 October 2026 · PDF

Stream it, post it, earn from it. Here is how to credit us, use the creator kit and play fair with the real people around you.

In short

  • Stream and post Lagos Life and every Vatar world as much as you like, and monetise it on your platform.
  • Add the credit line, use logos from the creator kit only, and disclose every sponsor.
  • Never call your channel official or speak for Vatar.
  • Everyone in our worlds is a real person: ask before you put someone in the spotlight.

1. Who this is for

Streamers, video creators, podcasters and anyone who publishes content made in a Vatar world. It sits on top of our Fan Content Policy (19.01) and each platform’s own rules.

2. Stream and post

  • Gameplay, events, tutorials, reviews, clips and highlights are all welcome.
  • In-game music may be streamed with gameplay. [Draft: confirm music licences before publishing.]
  • You don’t need permission or a contract to start.

3. Earn from it

Platform monetisation, tips, subscriptions, affiliate links and channel sponsors are all fine. Selling access to Vatar content itself is not (see 19.01).

4. The credit line

Put this in the description, or on screen the first time the game appears:

“Lagos Life, a Vatar world. Made with Vatar content.”

5. Logos

  • Use logo files from the creator kit (07.08) only, unchanged: no recolours, effects or crops.
  • Keep them in a corner of your overlay with clear space around them, and never larger than your own name.
  • Never put our logos on merchandise you sell.

6. Say who pays you

Disclose every sponsor with the platform’s paid-partnership tool or a clear “#ad”. If Vatar sponsors you, say “Sponsored by Vatar”. Never present a paid post as your own opinion.

7. Off-limits

  • “Official” or “Vatar” in your channel name, handle or logo;
  • speaking for Vatar or impersonating our staff;
  • leaking unreleased content, or teaching cheats and exploits that hurt other players;
  • harassment, hate, sexual content, or gambling with in-game items or real money.

8. Playing with real people

Ask before you feature another player’s name, voice or face. Hide personal details that appear on screen, and honour any “please don’t stream me” request.

9. If something goes wrong

We may ask you to edit or remove content, or remove you from the creator programme. Questions: info@vatar.com.

Advertiser brand-safety and creative guidelines

Version 0.1 · 19 October 2026 · PDF

What brands can show inside Vatar’s worlds, how to prepare the files, and how approval works.

In short

  • Every player is 18+. Your ad sits in a real-city world full of real people, so it must be honest and safe.
  • We never accept gambling, adult, tobacco, drugs, weapons, crypto or political ads. Alcohol and finance are allowed with conditions.
  • Send files at least 5 business days before launch. We review within 2 business days.
  • We may pause any ad that breaks these rules or the law.

1. Who sees your ad

Lagos Life, a Vatar world, is played in the browser by adults: accounts are 18+ at sign-up. Ads appear on billboards, screens, vehicles and storefronts inside the city, seen by real people going about their day. [Draft: confirm age-gating method.]

2. Never accepted

  • adult and sexual products or services;
  • tobacco, vapes and nicotine products; recreational drugs, including cannabis;
  • weapons and ammunition;
  • cryptocurrency, tokens, trading signals and get-rich-quick offers; predatory lending;
  • political parties, candidates, campaigns and issue ads (in-game elections are gameplay, not ads);
  • counterfeit goods, and anything illegal where the ad is shown.

3. Allowed with conditions

  • Be truthful: no claims you can’t back up, no fake prices, no fake countdowns.
  • Don’t imitate the game’s interface: no fake buttons, rewards or “You won!” messages.
  • No hate, sexual content, violence or shock imagery.
  • No URLs, QR codes or small print on in-world surfaces; they can’t be read in motion.
